Recall in the 2018 Draft Peoples Constitution of the Federation of Nigeria, 10 autonomous regions were proposed. There are 5 regions each in the North and in the South.
Southern Nigeria consists of the:
1. The Ala-Igbo Region
2. The Bendel Region
3. The Oduduwa Region
4. The Izon Atlantic Region
5. The Calabar Region.
Each region is proposed to have a Premier, a Parliament and a self-governing regional government. Each region is proposed to be in charge of her economy, her resources, her courts and contribute 25% of their gross revenues to the central government. All regions are to contribute the same number of persons to the parliament, to the military and to the federal police and civil service. The Principle of the Equality of Regions is absolutely enshrined and justiciable in the Draft Constitution of 2018.
Each region is proposed to have her own regional Constitution.
And these shall be the minimum basis of the restructuring. If we were agreed today to bring our proposals for restructuring, or the country were to devolve into the #autonomousRegions IMMEDIATELY, how many of us would be ready?
Of the 5 Southern Regions, only the Oduduwa and the Ala-Igbo Regions have their Regional Constitutions ready and some sort of regional leadership. The Izon Atlantic, the Calabar and the Bendel Regions are still sleeping and snoring happily. The Northern Regions are still sleeping and facing Mecca!
My dear friends, do not expect anyone to do the work for you. If you must restructure, you must be prepared. All the hard work must be done by YOU…yes, YOU! If you do not yet have a regional Constitution, what then would you be bringing to the table as Constitution on the day we would convoke and iron things out (if ever)?
No one would save you if you’re unwilling to save yourself!

The autonomous Regions shall come or Nigeria shall dissolve. Whichever way, be prepared!
