There are no roads in Nigeria…the roads have collapsed…the ex god roads built some 15yrs ago are falling apart…most of these are the so-called federal roads.
The federal government is too broke, too lazy and too unimaginative to fix them…most states are unwilling to fix the federal roads. The states willing to fix those roads are prevented by the federal government from fixing them.
The carnage on the roads is something else…trips that would normally take an hour take 8hrs. Man-hours wasted, productivity dips further, vehicle repairs putting pressure on importation of spares and hitting the reserves, rising costs pushing up inflation…the difficulties of moving goods and services and isolating markets and resource centres…all further compounding to further bury an already dead Economy!
All they need do would be to hand over the roads to the states and/or regions, and let the private run them as business entities. But no, we must die with a most idiotic system and pray for Messiahs to get into Aso Rock, wave the magic wand and solve all problems. Even those of us being governed need our heads examined to be supporting and placing hopes on this load of rubbish!
But then, this is Nigeria; a country that does its best not to employ scientific methods to governance. Certainly, they don’t think of these things…all they think of is the pretence of corruption, Fulani domination and petrodollars. You see those dimwits in the national assembly and those con-men called governors and their minions in the state houses? You think the know what they’re doing? No they don’t! The 1999 constitution says the primary school leaving certificate is the minimum qualification for presidency so what’s left? That’s the institutionalization of illiteracy and the rejection of intellect to governance.
With the insidious illiteracy and the spread of insanity as a policy of governance, the Nigerian State does not realize that the roads cannot be funded by the government, they don’t understand the value chain between infrastructure, economy, productivity and human development. No, they don’t know. The insanity they call governance is an insult to sanity! Come and chop Economy! Sell oil, sell some gas, share money monthly, pay a few salaries, fix one street, borrow some money, and generally ignore the citizens! For goodness sake, is that governance? But then, it’s exactly how the constitution wants it!
Nigeria as constituted, is the perfect example of how a country should NOT be governed. But then, we all validate this obnoxious structure in elections, don’t we? We are on a long thing; with our inability to think and work ourselves out of the morass shall help tip the Nigerian State over the precipice… and make way for the emerging countries on the horizon. The Nigerian State is a cataclysmic failure and it’s totally unprepared for the 21st century! May the state die forever and give rise to reasonable entities with human faces. Nigeria as constituted is a tragic waste of time! May it be buried for good..I am done.
Ladies and gentlemen, though this is the end of the series on the Tragedy called Nigeria, we shall still be around to keep sharing policy issues here. For now, this is Baron Roy, signing out.
Shalom.
