Many have come to my Facebook wall to literally ask, “Of what use is the impeachment of Trump by the American Congress, if it is going to fail in the Senate”!??
I have promised to give a comprehensive answer to Brothers like Professor Posi Tubosun and Obafemi Oke …
And this would be an answer to that question and, more…
Trump won in 2016 with 46.09% of the vote. Adjusted for a turnout of 55.7%, that means 25.6% of eligible voters cast a vote for Trump. His support in the Primary amounted to about 5.7% of eligible voters. That 5.7% is his base. If you assume only half his base voted in the primary—which is fair—then his base is maybe 11.4% of voters.
Right now, he has a 38% approval rating, and 51% support impeaching and removing him from office. So his base—that 11.4%— is probably a part of that 38% that still approve of him. That said, you’d hope he could at least keep his approval rating as high as his share of the popular vote, and he’s missing that mark.
So in short, support for Trump appears to be down,
He’ll probably keep a decent 9.4% of that 11.4% no matter what he does, and will probably still draw about 23–25% of voters in 2020 no matter what be does—short of being removed from office. But keep in mind that half of those voters would rather have any other Republican instead, and I’m sure many of them support impeachment, just so they could vote for Pence in 2020 instead—who they generally liked much more than Trump.
If he is impeached, Pence could win.
If the impeachment fails, his chances of being reelected becomes slimmer!
Mind you, he lost the popular votes by close to 3.5 million votes and only won by a mere 171,000 votes in the 6 swing states and two other Democratic states to give him his Electoral college victory.
171,000 votes can be wiped out as we saw in two deep Red Republican states that flipped to Democrats, including Kentucky where Trump won by 30 points in 2016!
Trump is in a whole lot of Trouble and he knows… Even his most ardent supporters know, but like most people with the acute sense of Buyer’s Remorse, they close their minds, their senses, their eyes to the truth and the obvious…
Somehow evil trudges on in the minds of every sanctimonious human — That part of evolution to which man has not been able to overcome common sense in rising beyond the base levels, by striving to reach The Christ-Like level of, “To Thyself, Be True”!
And then his Tax returns..
The courts are no more on his side, he will have to tender and… He won’t want to do that, even his base won’t take that.
So, what is it about what is bad, what is evil, what is an infraction anyway… Simply this, evil, bad, infraction shouldn’t be looked over just because it may escape justice. A bad Precedence if Trump’s impeachable offenses should be overlooked. Bad for Democracy. Bad for the fight of Good over Evil! Let the records say Trump is the Fourt U. S. President to be impeached by congress even if it fails at the Senate..! But who knows for sure it will fail!??
As it is, the Republicans control the senate.. But with Mitt Romney who has openly sided with impeaching Trump, will “normal” Republican senators such as Rob Portman (Ohio), John Cornyn (Tex.), Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Richard Burr (N.C.) and Roy Blunt (Mo.) all not as partisan as the others be ready to save Trump and potentially damage their own party!??
Surely, this is not the Republican party of Thomas Jefferson’s and Ronald Regan’s, particularly Regan who waxed a love song for immigrants in the 70s, whose Reganomics is the opposite of Trump’s economics that only favor the rich.
Many factors are playing in now..
Just as Trump said in Kentucky, “If the Democrats win here, it will make me look Bad and we can’t let that happen, make this election about me”.. And Kentucky Did! They voted against him! He got what he asked for!
Like the Republican congressmen did, asking the impeachment proceedings to go public and this week they’ll have it and it’s going to be so bad for Trump and very bad for them as the proceedings show how the Republicans simply ignored all questions about the Quid Pro Quo, focusing instead on the most gaseous questions during plenary, only fit for a circus show.
So… It appears that the Republicans are Ready to now accept a Quid Pro Quo… But going with an idea that Trump’s actions do not rise to the impeachment level.. And that is Dangerous..!
Lest we forget — The Whistle-Blowing did not start with Democrats.. No! It started right inside Trump’s Whitehouse. It started from within his own enclave, most likely his own appointee{s}.. So enough about a blanket pussillanimous contemptible timidity of all Republicans about their unflinching support for Trump — Some clearly want him out!
And the book “Anonymous”, Written by an insider at the Whitehouse which talked about a plan by nearly all of Trump’s appointees staging a mass Resignation just a while ago, ostensibly with the knowledge of Vice president Pence…
And Pence, the 48th Vice president is no fool!
I recently posted an interview with Pence clearly distancing himself from any ties to “That call with Ukraine”… Smart!
And I recall in 1972…Richard Nixon had a high number of Republican senators as well ab initio. And it’s true that Republicans are currently staying in President Trump’s corner. But while we tend to focus on the bipartisan rebellion that led to Nixon’s resignation, it’s also worth understanding how public opinion and the party eventually turns against a president of the United States…
And what exactly are the figures saying about the approval ratings of President Trump now….
