1. Begin the day early: The early bird catches the most worms. Right? So, why start your day late when you only have 24 hours to do everything you want to do, go everywhere you want to go, sleep and eat? Starting your day early gives you a head start and gives you a lead. So, yes, you should begin your day early. Plus, why are you even sleeping for 12 hours?
2. Set goals: If you want to successfully manage your time, you’ll start with setting goals. Its easy. You just have to wake up everyday and write out the things you want to achieve for the day in their order of importance. Like me, you can have a jotter where you write out the things you intend to achieve every day.
Your list could look a bit like this:
a. Download a video on photoshop
b. Call Aunty A to congratulate her on her graduation.
c. Shop for provisions
d. Do my laundry
e. Cook
f. Read for my exams
g. Short nap
h. Clean and do the dishes
It can actually look as simple as the above-listed. It’s your goals, right? Write them out in the way you feel best. Also make sure to tick any of the goals you achieve at the end of the day. The most important thing is that you make a written list of all the things you want to achieve in a particular day. Oh, and make sure you do them.
3. Create a flexible schedule: Make a schedule for yourself that isn’t a lie. Sometimes, in the bid to manage time and do the most with such a short time, we end up trying to create a schedule that we know very well, we wont follow. It might end up frustrating you because you have to be everywhere at the same time according to your schedule. No breathing space, no time to rest and at the end of the day, you end up worked out and frustrated. That’s not what you want for yourself. Right?
4. Prioritize wisely: There are some things you know you don’t need to be doing. For example, you know that you shouldn’t be on Twitter or WhatsApp for a whole day but, somehow, you end up spending your whole day there. There are other more important things that you should be doing with your time and if you do not plan yourself wisely, you’ll end up spending the time you don’t even have on things that you know you shouldn’t be doing.
5. Take time for yourself: I know you weren’t expecting this but, you should take out some time for yourself. Watch a movie, see a friend, get some ice-cream, take a short nap, anything. I know how much you want to get things done but, you deserve some time for yourself too. If you don’t create time for yourself once in a while, you’ll end up a sad, dreary person and you don’t want to be that person.
