I am a great believer in second chances. Many years ago as a student, I had gotten a bad grade in an exam that I could have done better. I asked the professor to give me a chance to rewrite it immediately (different subject). She obliged. I aced it. I still remember to this day, how much that mattered to me.
Today I celebrate one of my team members. Funlola was the very first person I recruited when I joined the @ubagroup 5 years ago. Her initial interview was terrible. She had come late because she had had difficulty parking on the marina. She was flustered and not at all her best. I knew she could do much better. Besides, she had graduated from my almamata @universityofsussex with an upper second in Law and also had a master’s degree from London University. There was plenty of reason for me to give this 25 year old a second chance and so I asked her to come back a few days later, well prepared.
She began working as my Executive assistant for a couple of years and then as an executive at the UBA Foundation and is now the PR & Marketing Executive for REDTV. I have watched her grow and flourish over the past 5 years. She is constantly brimming with excellent ideas & creativity and brings a great deal to the team. I’m so glad I gave her a second chance. Happy 30th birthday Funlola.
